-
What do we do?We primarily specialize in CNC machined wood, plastic, acrylic and aluminum projects. We are a small, home based business that has grown into doing small to medium scale manufacturing for commercial customers, while continuing to do custom work for individual customers who have a design or project that they want made, but lack the resources to make it on their own.

Can I just have something machined for my wood working project?Yes! We we work with other wood shops, makers and hobbyists all the time. Sometimes it’s just CNC machining the part that needs to be machined, sometimes it’s flattening a piece of material or a cutting board, drum sanding or whatever you need done so that you can finish your project. Because of the unique way that our business grew in the first couple of years, we had to purchase a lot of equipment that could be considered “nice to have” but not many small shops are going to invest in. A good example is the horizontal boring machine that we have. It’s a highly specialized piece of equipment that most people will never need. But, when you want to drill precise horizontal holes, it’s a must have. Most planers only work up to 13" or so, but we are able to flatten material up to 48" x 48" using the CNC machine. We also have C02 and Diode LASER engravers, 3D printing and finishing capabilities. Check out our Services page for a complete list of our capabilities!

What is the maximum size of your CNC machine? We have (2) 48” x 48” machines, but one of them is capable of pass through, which means that we can handle longer lengths than 48” by tiling the job in software. There are CNC shops that have 5’ x 10’ machines that run dozens of full sheets of plywood all day, every day. We aren’t one of those shops. We typically work on physically smaller projects, up to the bed size of 4’ x 4’, which are usually projects that customers tell us the bigger shops won’t even touch.
-
Can I provide my own material?Absolutely! We don’t typically try to make money on material and we aren’t a lumber supplier, so if you have your own material, we’d be happy to work with it. A couple of considerations are worth mentioning: For most CNC work, material MUST be flat, at least on the bottom surface. If your material is going to be difficult to work with because it is warped, not properly dried etc, we’ll let you know and figure out how to proceed. Similarly, we may suggest alternate material depending on the specifics of your project. Piine, for example, doesn’t 3D carve particularly well. Oak takes longer to machine than most wood species. There are different grades of plywood - some excellent quality and easy to work with, some terrible quality and impossible to work with.
-
Do you do manufacturing? We do! We can’t go into specifics about most of the production work that we do because of NDAs, but we have done production runs of 500 parts and regularly do production runs of dozens to hundreds of different parts for several companies. Having spent almost 2 decades working with engineers, I’m fluent in blueprints, CAD models, technical drawings and GD&T, so I can work directly with your designers and/or engineers to make sure that every detail of your part is understood and implemented exactly as required. Some of the parts that we make are held to 1% tolerance and are subject to inspection in the customer’s QA department. We have been working to that level of precision for years, so we know how to optimize processes to get consistent, accurate results... even in wood.

Do you make Epoxy River Tables? No.
-
Do you make furniture? We don’t specialize in furniture, but some of the projects that we’ve done have been furniture. An example of the type of furniture work that we might take on would be a design that you have that either doesn’t exist or that you want a custom version of. Another common request that we get that relates to furniture is that someone will find a design on Etsy, Instagram or YouTube that is available as digital plans. In most cases, we can take those plans and build the project for you, or in some cases just provide machining services for a project that you want to finish on your own. If there’s something that you think we might be able to help with but aren’t sure, give us a call and we can figure it out.
-
Do you offer painting and/or finishing?Yes. We’ve done everything from hand painted to air brushed to HVLP painting and finishing. Color, stain, clear coat, indoor or outdoor, food grade - there are a number of things to consider when choosing a finish, and we can guide you in the decision making process. While we can work with any finish that you prefer, we tend to use Spar Urethane for outdoor projects that will be exposed to the elements, polyurethane for general clear coats and nitrocellulose lacquer for projects that require that level of finish, such as musical instruments and projects that would benefit from the classic, Amber look that nitrocellulose lacquer provides.

Is this a cabinet shop? No. We are able to make cabinets, but it isn't what we are optimally setup to do. If you are looking to have any significant number of cabinets made, you're going to want to work with a shop that is able to work in full size (4' x 8') sheets of plywood. I haven't had cabinets made, personally, so I can't really recommend any particular shops based on my own experiences, but I'll update this answer with some of the local shops that are available. Scandia Kitchens, for example, is located on the same street as us, as is Van Millwork.
